| ScubaTune-Up
- A Refresher
By Russ Hrabchak
Haven't been diving in a while, but you've
been thinking about it? Sharky's has been
providing the PADI Scuba Tune-Up refresher
course consistently through the winter/spring.
Many people who, for instance, were certified
years ago and were never able to do any
additional diving have been benefiting from
this course. Updating their skill adding
a designation from a qualified instructor
directly to their certification card. A
smart thing to do before heading south.
The course consists of a concise workbook,
complete with quizzes and answers, to be
completed prior an evening of class and
pool session. It's good opportunity to try
out any new gear. In addition to revising
safety procedures, dive planning and equipment
configuration, a video and discussion on
buoyancy is introduced. Buoyancy is an integral
aspect of diving that needs to be practiced
by all of use from time to time.
Many divers who might not have otherwise
gone diving on a southern excursion have
renewed their confidence through this course.
Some who haven't been diving since horse
collars with C02 cartridges were used for
buoyancy. Others with hundreds of logged
dives, but have been out of the water long
enough to know that a refresher would do
them good. In this way the course is often
configures to the needs of those attending.
A lot is normally covered in the open table
discussion resulting in a concentrated evening
when desired.
Offered new this winter/spring has
been an opportunity to warm up your snorkelling
or diving skills in the pool. This is offered,
